The Giantess

So we visited a tiny but excellent museum in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. The museum was a cross between natural history and community history. One of the exhibits there dealt with Anna Swan, a giantess who was born in the area. She has a great story. She was about eight feet tall.

After a time, she decided to join the Barnum and Bailey circus to support herself and her family. All the stories about her talk about how personable and gracious she was. While she was part of Barnum's group, she met a giant and they got engaged. They sailed to England and met the queen who paid for their wedding. They settled down in Illinois and built a house that was half giant-size and half regular-size (for their many guests).

I think she has a great story. I think it was amazing that she was able to find someone who was a good match for her. And I think it is great that she turned her misfortune into something good.
