My Trip to the White House

So a couple weeks ago I got an email invitation to hear the President's Remarks on Volunteering on the South Lawn of the White House. It took me a few days to believe that the invitation was real and not just a hoax. My Dean said that she would pay for my flight to DC to hear the President speak this last Monday. So I arrived in DC on Monday morning and made my way to the White House.

I had to stand in line for an hour and half before I got in, and it was a crazy hot day. Luckily the White House provided water, lemonade and cookies. I met some interesting people. There were about 2,000 other people in attendance. The President spoke about the things that his administration has done for volunteering, such as starting FreedomCorps and other initiatives.

The President was kind enough to pose for a picture.

The media turned out in droves.

I also got to view some of the rooms inside the White House.

I pretty much feel like a celebrity now. I guess that something cool did come out of my dissertation.
