So I spent all day yesterday in orientation for my new high-powered job as a Assistant Professor. We learned about all kinds of resources on campus. The most important advice that I got all day was the following advice given during a discussion about how to deal with belligerent students in class:
"Never take on someone one-on-one in class. You will always lose. The person may be the Village Idiot, but it THEIR Village Idiot."
I will remember that.
