What you don’t know about Bath is that it was actually a Roman town before it was an English town. The Romans were the first to discover the spring waters at Bath and they built the first set of baths here.
During Jane Austen’s time (Regency period), Bath was also popular for the healing waters. There were public baths during that time and people would also drink the waters because it was said to give you good health. (They may be good for your health, but they taste nasty.)
The Pump Room was a social gathering place where you could drink the waters and gossip with friends. One morning this past week we went to breakfast at the Pump Room. It was fabulous. I had some amazing eggs benedict with toast and hot chocolate. We even had a trio playing for us. Here’s a little video of the experience:
